How volunteering shifts work

Once you are accepted as a volunteer, you will be invited to our Volunteer Hub. Published shifts are shown on the Volunteer Hub website and in our iOS and Android apps. You can claim the shifts that match your approved projects and roles, and the team will confirm any checks, induction steps or role requirements before you start.

1Apply for rolesChoose the projects and roles you are interested in below.
2Join the Volunteer HubOnce approved, you will get access to the Volunteer Hub website and our iOS and Android apps.

Choose by project

Choose the projects and roles you are interested in. Each project is collapsed into its own section so you can read the project description first, then expand it to see the role descriptions underneath.

You do not need to choose perfectly at this stage. Pick the areas that interest you and the volunteer team will help match you to the right role.

Safeguarding self-declaration

This step forms part of our safer recruitment process for volunteer roles that may involve non-regulated activity or minimal contact with children, young people or adults at risk. Your name, email address and date of birth have already been collected earlier in this application, so they are not repeated here.

The information you provide helps The Parish Trust make informed decisions while treating disclosures confidentially and sensitively. Having an unspent conviction, caution, investigation or other disclosure does not automatically prevent you from volunteering. Any disclosure will be considered in the context of the role applied for.

A volunteer post at The Parish Trust may be covered by the Offender Rehabilitation Act 2014. Applicants are therefore asked to declare unspent convictions and relevant information. Free confidential advice is available from NACRO, NIACRO and Unlock if you are unsure whether something should be disclosed.

Are you currently subject to any fitness to practise investigations or proceedings by a regulatory, governing, or licensing body in any country, which may have bearing on your suitability for this position?

Have you ever been dismissed for misconduct from any employment, volunteering, or other position previously held by you, in circumstances which may have bearing on your suitability for this position?

Have you been the subject of any formal action, disciplinary investigation and/or sanction by any organisation due to concerns about your behaviour towards children, young people, or adults at risk?

Have you been formally charged with any other offence in any country which has not yet been disposed of?

Are you currently subject to any criminal investigations or pending prosecutions by the police in any country which may have a bearing on your suitability for this position?

Declaration and consent

Thank you for taking the time to apply. Please read this final declaration carefully before submitting your application.

Privacy and data protection

The Parish Trust will use the information in this application to assess your suitability to volunteer, manage safer recruitment, carry out onboarding, arrange training and checks, communicate with you, manage rotas and attendance, protect people, keep required records, meet legal and regulatory duties, administer insurance and finance processes, improve our services, and evidence the impact and governance of our charitable work.

Where appropriate, information may be shared with authorised staff and trustees, safeguarding leads, Disclosure and Barring Service or other checking bodies, statutory agencies, emergency services, insurers, professional advisers, funders or regulators where reporting is required, and carefully selected IT providers who help us run our systems.

Some processing is necessary for legitimate interests, legal obligations, safeguarding, vital interests, role administration, insurance, governance, or because you have asked to volunteer. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw that consent, but this may affect what roles or communications we can offer.

Retention: Volunteer application, onboarding and service records are kept only for as long as needed for recruitment, safeguarding, legal, insurance, audit, operational, archiving and reporting purposes, and then deleted or anonymised in line with The Parish Trust retention rules.
